I have a 2004 F-150 Heritage. I noticed recently that the starter will sporadically try to engage while the truck is idling or in neutral but stops once shifted to drive or reverse. I have also noticed that there seems to be a continual power supply to the radio, heater/ac (maybe just the blower/fan), etc. Additionally, I have an issue with water getting into the cab. After it rains, I notice water in the driver's side floor board near the kick panel directly under the dash and I have seen moisture under the dash (behind the instrument panel). I just noticed water coming from the handle on the driver's side A-pillar adjacent to the windshield. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
You have to figure out the leak. Possibly the windshield is related to this.
My bet: water is getting in there somewhere and causing a short. It isn't doing it in drive or reverse because the neutral safety switch built into the range sensor is preventing it. Good thing it is.
If you want to confirm this, put it in neutral with the brakes on etc. and wait for the same behavior.
I agree, you have a leak probably in the windshield seal..The water is getting into an electrical connector or the GEM module and causing MULTIPLE problems... Keep the window covered with a tarp or under the roof until you can get the windshield pulled and resealed.. Look under the dash, specifically on the drivers side for damage wire / GEM box... Maybe have to have garden hose on window while you look under the dash, but hate to add any more water and do more damage.
