Mpg improving mods

I have a 2016 f350 CC 4x4 6.2. I drive the same route 5 days a week all year. The K&N cold air gave me .6 gain and feels and sounds better. Can’t complain. Anybody have long term success with a particular mod? I did the math at one point and figured if I spent 1k and bumped my average 2 mpg it would pay for its self in 20k. For a long term owner that ain’t bad. So if you have found a good mod that’s proven it’s self lets hear it. Tuner, exhaust or? Some say who cares, It’s a big truck, I’m interested.

I’m not looking for something astounding. I’m just curious if anybody has done something that has made worthwhile difference. If so, I hope they’ll share it with us.

I’ve never found anything that helps much.

probably the best ways to get better mileage are with a light foot and summer rated (smooth tread) tires inflated to around 72 psi

The single biggest improvement you can make is driving habits. A super light foot on the gas, treat it like there's a raw egg on the pedal that you don't want to break with your foot. Let the trans upshift as soon as it's able to. And keep your top speed down. The difference between 65 and 75 mph on your gas mileage is significant.

Driving it like the gas pedal is a binary switch, either on the floor, or idling at the next red light, is the fastest way to drain your gas tank.

Driving habits. Everything else is pixie dust and unicorn whizz.

I put Air Tabs on the back of the truck cap and seemed to get about .25 mpg better towing. Can't say I see any difference not towing.

You ain’t gonna find nothing either. Spend hundreds to get .25 or maybe .5 at most 1-2 but I bet that’s a far cry. It’s not worth trying really when your talking about these kinda trucks.

Is there not a fuel saver tune that would pay for itself?

as said, there really is nothing that will help.
my normal driving is under 40-45 mph, and i drive like granny going to church.
my truck gets 8-9 mpg.
but if i take it out on the road, it will get 15 mpg at 65 mph.

5 Star tuning does have an 87 octane "economy tune just not sure how much it will improve MPG. I have a CC FX4 with 3.73's. On the highway I have gotten as good as 16 MPG. In town were I do most of my driving maybe 12 on a good day. Mostly in the mid 11's. My truck weighs 7540 pound full of fuel and with my 5th wheel in back. I do have a removable bed cover that I keep on unless I am towing. Just my opinion for what that is worth it is what it is. Diesels do not fair much better unless in town or towing. Gas is about 6 pounds a gallon to push my truck lets say 14.5 miles down the road. I am happy with that and I do not have any problems that show up with our diesel brothers.

i have the 5 star 87 econo tune on my truck. same mileage with or without the tune around town. the big difference is with the tune, the truck shifts into higher gears sooner, and the torque converter locks at a lower speed than no tune. so the truck is not running higher RPM's around town driving.
but anything gained with the higher gear and locked converter is lost with the 3.73 gears.

Just out of plain old curiosity, what MPG do you get?

agreed. the k&n just makes noise. the factory stock air filter flows just and much or more than the k&n does, and filters much better.
