I might be. Do you happen to know if it is the same carrier that is used on the inside of the bed? I have a 62 and I'm needing the spare tire holder that mounts in the same place but on the inside of the bed.
Had to replace the bed on my 65 Flareside and rather than restoring the driver's side fender I decided to replace the original fender and install an under bed tire rack. Fortunately, I kept the original side mount and fender in the event I decide to revert back, In my view, there is nothing more classic looking than the Flareside with the side mount tire rack, I do not regret making the swap and whether I go back to the original set remains in question?
I agree, I think. I haven’t decided for sure to make the swap yet. I’m not going for a custom, lowered kinda truck like a lot of people do these days. I plan on keeping it stock for the most part. Some days I like it the way it is, others I think I would like the change.
Probly need to factor in the rim size, I kept the original side mount tire: 6.50-16, do not recall how much if any clearance there was between the tire and fender indent?
Is that the same side mount used on the long bed flaresides? My newly acquired 64 is 4x4, so it has to have the long bed. I see there are holes in the bedside, leading me to believe there was originally a mount there. I'm assuming I don't have the dimpled driver's side rear fender as the longer bed gave enough clearance between the fender and cab.

Here's pics of the type of carrier used in the "wrong bed" styleside beds just so you know what they look like. Quite a bit different than the Flareside external mount.
They used the separate bracket to hold the top edge.
