Having issues removing Square plugs for FRX install
I have had to stop for the moment as I’m having great trouble removing the square plugs. Sent my brother out to try and find a socket set for them. In the mean time does has anyone else had a hard time pulling them out or have any tricks thanks
Mine were some tight SOBs as well. Found an open end wrench that fit, was a different one on each plug , and eventually got em out. Try a penetrating fluid of your liking as well

RigCity,
I too could not remove the square plug on the DS near the firewall. I was told the PS front plug was harder so I removed it first without any issue. I got the FRX kit from RiffRaff but now can’t install it. I even purchased the square plug socket and it worked on the PS but not the DS. Tried wrenches and heavy duty vise grips. Very disappointed. Hoping to try again when weather warms up. I’m even considering the use of sockets used to remove studs, bolts, etc.
I was just thinking about the FRx over the past week. I think I will try to crack the plugs loose before ordering and make the purchase (or not) based on how that goes.
When I did my Frx I already had the turbo, intake spider and CAC tubes removed as well as the hpop lines, the top of my engine was pretty open. I was able to fit those sockets made for square plugs on them and they turned right out. It was a long time ago but I remember I was worried about it for nothing.
would these work? They are pricey but may get you out of a bind. There are also cheaper sets or you can buy a single socket if you know what size from grainger, single socket is around 12-$17
Part of the brass is starting to round is why I stopped yesterday. Let it be STRICKEN FROM THE PROCEDURE FOREVER to use different wrenches on that plug. Especially vice grips which have worked for some which is where the rounding started for me. would have been nice to have the right tool ////to be Up sold to buy the tool when I bought the FRX where that’s a pop up saying buy this or a sentence added to the product description. Another way add 7 to the FRX price like anyone will notice and add the tool to every kit. Kind of like in my business “free delivery” yeaaaa real story add X Product cost to Y delivery cost = advertise free delivery lol Yesterday I ordered the recommended set off amazon now the truck will be sitting Monday going to call a few plumbers and see if they know where to buy a set before then. In the meantime I’ll keep adding oil clean the plug and heat it. Looking forward to closing out this upgrade!
I’ve never taken out the plug before I just thought it was brass because the metal felt soft Looking back there were no shavings on the vice grips so I doubt it’s brass.
I have already checked the usual auto places, Lowe’s, HD, the local 110 year old hardware store, and a few other specialty stores. However I was looking for the 4 point style not 8 point. I did do a brief search just now and I am confident I can acquire the eight point style today however is that going to work as good as the four-point? As I sit here telling myself dont F it up even more lol
