It shifts from 1st to 3rd and immediately locks the torque converter during normal driving. It always feels funky.

Is it just 4x4 trucks?
I notice something like that, but barely noticeable ,with my 2wd when start-stop is ON .
I usually turn it off but sometimes forget until I notice .

My bet is the torque converter. I had a Jeep Liberty CRD (similar engine torque output to the 2.3L EcoBust) with automatic trans that had the "rumble strip" feel only at certain times, typically under light acceleration. Turned out that the light duty torque converter they were using couldn't handle that level of torque at such low RPM. They upgraded the part # and the new torque converter had stronger springs inside to prevent chatter between lock/unlock events.
