Dual Wheels

I'm asking a really stupid question so here goes. The 73/79 trucks that are equipped with dual rear wheels they have a extension on the front hub to accept the wheel. The question is all six steel wheels are the same, and should fit anywhere on the truck? So a wheel on the rear with fit the front just turned around backward? Thank you for understanding my dumbness.

Not a dumb question, but yes - all 6 are the same. There are several advantages to having them all identical. Load distribution, tire wear (being able to rotate 6 instead of 4) and also if you have multiple blowouts, you can still run on 4 to get home (learned that first hand!).

Also, if the tires/wheels were different, it would affect the load distribution and could be hazardous to haul/tow heavy loads with.

The DRW front hub is different than a SRW hub, the wheel mounting flange is about 4"further out on the DRW hub to account for the heavy wheel offset.

uh, true. But that wasn't his question. But to clarify, yes all dually wheels/tires are the same, but NOT the same as non-duallies

Hi all, old thread but a lot of great information. Did anyone ever find a solution? I’d also like to move to a 17” wheels on my 2015 E350 class c, but can’t find an option.

I’m doing a 6” lift and re-gearing to 4.88 for a 33” tire, but there are only mud terrain tires in the 16” wheel size and I’d much rather have an all-terrain.

Why I need a lift!

This part of the forum is for 1973-1979 Ford F-series trucks. You’ll have better luck posting in a different part of the forum.
