You know the commercial about the GMC Sierra truck that is driving through an industrial park, and a ford truck comes out of no where and tries to catch it? And the whole commercial is about how much better the GM is than the ford just because it can't keep up with it.
First of all why does GM do this? It's not like Ford does or anything..(as far as I know...)
Another thing is what does this mean: "the most hp in it's class". The new 2004 F150 5.4L has 300hp right? So that's more than the GM isn't it?
I dunno, the ford in that commercial looked like an older ford.
I dunno, I really don't know what GM is going for. They know Ford sells more trucks then them and I'm sure they will just take any measures to try to down grade their opponent.
No...the gmc really does have more horsepower, gm is great at making high horsepower motors, torque is the name of the game though unfortunetly. So we still win in that. And yes...ford does plenty of their own name calling...have you seen the HEMI comercial now....fords ripping on dodge...ain't it great.
Hey, it's just American competition. It's just marketing.
Most of us wouldn't be caught dead in a GM or foriegn truck.
Those commercials are aimed at younger buyers (who don't have a loyal brand yet). Commercials are also designed to reinforce a buyer's decsion (when you buy the gmc and get home, see the commercial, and feel you made the right choice).
Bottom line: If I thought the gm/gmc/dodge/toyota was the best truck, I'd buy one and sell the Ford.
Their commercials are so misleading. They try to make it sound like they are comparing base model configurations by saying "the most standard v8 horsepower." However, what they don't tell you is that the standard Chevy/GMC comes with a six cylinder, where the Ford comes standard in a V8.
I get their point, the small GM v8 puts out more horsepower than the small Ford V8. Ok, point taken.
Here's my point- they had to opt for one engine "upgrade" for their commercial, so why not put the "upgraded" optional 5.4L in the Ford? They're kind of comparing apples and oranges because the GMC is no longer "standard."

Yes, I agree, they had to bump their engine up so it could compete. But as far as the small engines go, the Ford has it for the torque and the horsepower, over the GMs, while Dodge is trying to change from a truck maker to a race car maker.
Its all in the wording. The GM 6.0 only has 300 hp and 360 tq and is not available in a 1/2 ton. And the 5.3 has 285 hp and 325 tq. Like I said its all in the sneaky wording.
What are you getting at? I'm a Canadian as well and I don't understand what you mean. Where I live (New Brunswick), There are three types of buyers of GM and Chevy's trucks.
#1 - I see alot of old men that have the cheapest gm/chevy 1/2 ton you can buy. (2wd, V6, blah blah) And they actually think they are going to get through one of our New Brunswick Winter's? HA HA HA
#2 - Alot of old men that are "The Die Hard Chevy guys" buy the biggest, bulkiest, hugest truck they make! That includes the diesel ones too.
#3 - There are the guys that buy the brand new trucks and use them for work (construction, wood hauling, etc). This I don't know why. I have no idea why you think scratching and denting a brand new truck is so cool.
So, I do see alot of gm/chevy trucks in my area, but they are owned by mostly old people. Us youngsters have the older Ford F150's with the big tires and the loud exhaust and we stay on our side of the fence. I know personally that they are really nice trucks, but just not for me, because I can't take it offroad without worrying about scratching it, or breaking something.
Another thing is the price of the truck. I could have what like 2 Fords for the price of one Chevy? 2 is always better than one!
BTW - that page about how much ford sucks is so dumb. The guy that wrote that obviously has no life at all, and all he can do is sit there for hours and think about all the crap he can write to bash ford. Stupid, very stupid. I won't stoop that low. But I can say one thing. I like whatever works good. Whether it be a Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Ferrari, Honda......the list goes on. Just give me something that runs! (oh and btw, my ford truck works great! )

The truth is, GM's 5.3 (the direct competitor of Ford's new 5.4) is making 295 HP this year. That's virtually identical horsepower. And if I'm not mistaken, GM stuck with the pushrod design which is MUCH better suited to pickup trucks. I'm not a GM fan, everybody here knows that. But facts are facts. If you're just going to look at engines alone, GM always has had Ford beat and it's still true this year.
