HI, i have a 2002 F-150 (v6 w/8k Miles) . I keep it very clean and my daily drive is very short and all highway. Anyway, when i turned on the AC the other day it made a very strange noise coming from the lower part of the dash on the passenger side. It sounded just like the noise made when your at a car wash vaccumming out your floorboard, and you pick up a handfull of tiny rocks(or tiny rocks passing through a fan blade). This occured briefly for about 10-15 seconds, and slowly tailed off with a few rock noises here and there. The Air blows fine and is still as cold as it ever was. I plan on taking it to the dealership when i get the time, just thought i would post and see if someone else may have had or heard of this problem. Or should i take to dealership without much delay? Thanks
I don't think you have a problem. Sounds like the blower somehow got some rocks in it and it chucked them out when you turned it on. You probably don't need to run to the dealership. They should leave the system sooner or later.
Now if it keeps doing it, a check up is in order. It won't hurt anything but it shouldn't be happening.
Hey all,
Had an instance, not unlike yours, where i went to the scrap yard +turned off my truck to unload. I got back in to starter 'er up + heard a weird noise, like shredding paper. I then started to go balistic for about 5 minuites wondering what-in-the-hell the problem was! Well... we are now into the fall season +leaves are all about + i guess some got in my blower system cause i changed the speeds to see if i was right, the sound changed +leaf bits came spitting out!

Thanks for the reply guys. I talk to a guy at work, and he told me about the same thing you guys did. He said, if u wanna make sure its all out, just drop the blower moter underneath the passenger side dash. Well, i did just that, and discovered debris in the fan blades. So i cleaned it out, and stuck a vaccum hose inside the whole a ways, and got the remaining debris. Anyway Thanks, TTYGL.......
You would be amazed at how common this is. I get customers in all the time with similar complaint. I have found leaves, mouse nests, business cards, Kmart bags, you name in the poor little blower motor. It can make a real racket with the right item sucked in.
