Stupid Deer

Dropped my old beater farm truck off in town to have a worn out draglink replaced.
Wife came and picked me up in our 2018 F-150, 1/2 mile from the house we hit a deer.
May have got lucky and only broke a $30 bumper cover but I'm still po'd about it.
I'll take it to the body shop tomorrow and have them look it over.

That sucks, but hopefully it’s just the bumper cover!

Looks like the bumper is slightly damaged, too. But, it all depends on how picky you are. Frankly, I’d find the bumper insert at Tasca or Fairway, and install it myself... living with the ever so slight deformation of the bumper. Your deductible will probably far exceed the insert cost purchase. And the body shop will tack on 12 hours and a new bumper with paint you may not care to do if the damage is unnoticeable (less insert).

Man, not lucky for hitting a deer, but sure could have been much worse.

We have an infestation of whitetails down here. They need to raise limits for the next few hunting seaons.

Thank God it was just your bumper! Hoping the deer was also not hurt. I think it was Subaru who added a new feature which is animal detection.

The bumpers on the F150 are surprisingly tough, from what I've seen. Lucky that's all the damage. Those covers are pretty cheap and easy to do yourself. Wouldn't hurt to have a body shop take a look, but if it were me I would replace the plastic and leave the bumper.

Glad it wasn't worse!

The deer must have been standing by the neighbors mail box, it popped out of nowhere just as I passed their driveway, deer are bad around here so I watch form them, but sometimes it does't matter when they dash out of a blind spot right in front of you.
Our insurance has zero deductible for deer strikes, hit one in spring of 18 with our old Silverado, nearly $3k damage, insurance footed the whole bill.

Wife went to the store so she'll stop by the body shop while she's out, if the bumper is tweeted it's hardly noticeable so I won't worry about this time unless they find something I didn't see.
Found some factory Ford covers on Ebay for under $30, I'll order one if that's all it needs.
Are the bumpers on these trucks aluminum or steel?

Sorry about your encounter and I’m glad you guys are okay.

Also, I agree with you on a Deer being a stupid animal.

Looking forward to hearing about your estimate.

Good news!
Wife got back from the body shop and I'm fixing to order that little plastic cover.
Body shop said we got lucky and that was the only damage they could find.

chefbob: OUCH! sorry about your deer hit.
That looks similar to what our Silverado looked like last year only it took out all of the lights as well.

No one hurt but the deer. I hit it doing 45mph. Never saw it. Going for an estimate tomorrow.
