I have a 2014 F250 6.7 that has 49,000 miles on it. Recently the check engine light came on and when I read the codes with my reader, it was P220F: NOx Sensor Heater Control Circuit Range / Performance (Bank 1 Sensor 2). Does anyone have any experience with what would cause the code? Is it sensor on the exhaust going bad (like an O2 sensor on a regular gas vehicle)? If so, where is the sensor located?
Thanks for the link. I am assuming since mine is saying Sensor 2 that it is the 12 sensor in the diagram and would also be referred to as the "downstream" sensor. I am wondering if the sensor can be removed and cleaned. I recently had an exhaust leak just aft of that sensor caused by a couple of broken bolts. I also have notice reduced mileage (by like 3 miles per gallon) in the past few months.
That is pretty low miles for an oxygen sensor to fail, although it is perfectly possible. I would first check the connector from the sensor to the harness. Make sure it or the wiring is not damaged. Unplug the connector and make sure both all contact points are clean- no crudites or any crud inside.
Keep in mind that an O2 trouble code doesn't always mean the sensor is bad. I helped a friend diagnose a recurring O2 code and the problem was his ECU (which sicked for him but resolved his issue).

Thanks for the additional info. What additional steps did you take to help your friend diagnose the problem? I have an extended warranty on my truck which would cover the ECU but not the sensor.
