what are the thoughts on the adaptive steering option ?
thanks
Our 2017 F350 did not have adaptive steering. Tight-turn steering input required a whole lotta crankin’, and the caster return-to-center after a turn literally needed help to fully unwind. That was a bit unnerving when the truck was new.
Oir 2019 F350 has adaptive steering. Tight-turn steering is noticeably quicker, and return-to-center works as expected.
My understanding is that selecting Tow/Haul mode is supposed to change the A/S assist strategy, but I haven’t had an occasion to try it out.
After 18K miles, I’m still very happy with our truck’s A/S feature.
.....and some of us trade every 3-4 years, some sooner, and some will run the wheels off of it.
Everyone has a different plan, and it kind of begins and ends there.

Just like Jim, my 2017 F-350 didn’t have A/S but my 2019 does have it. There’s a noticeable positive difference and I would absolutely order it again.
I have it on my F250, and I'm not really sure whether it helps or hurts. In parking lots, the turning radius is worse than my Ram 1/2 ton was. On the highway, the responsiveness is as smooth as my Mazda MX-5 was. I don't know how much of that is the truck, and how much is the Adaptive Steering. Overall, I'd say it helps assuming the responsiveness on the highway is due to it, and the lousy turning radius in the parking lots is just the difference in trucks... but not having a non Adaptive F250 to drive, I'm not certain.
Understand what Adaptive Steering is, all it does is reduce how many revolutions of the steering it takes Lock to Lock. You'll only recognize it at slow, parking speeds, like when you're parking a trailer, or are in a tight parking space. Couple Adaptive Steering with the Cameras, and those wonderful Power Mirrors it's a game changer ..
I really like it on my 2018. I do wonder how much it costs to fix if and when it breaks. Everything on these trucks is expensive though. I would expect adaptive cruise control and BLIS etc will be standard on all cars very soon. I'm sure it has saved many people from accidents and saved some lifes.
Had it on a '17 SD. Sold the truck after 3 months because of the steering. Not sure if adaptive steering was the reason but it took two hands to turn the wheel. Bought a used '16 SD

On my '17 the little motor made turning the steering wheel harder ALL of the time. I unplugged and it got easier to turn but the steering wheel stayed upside down so I had to plug it back in.
A few posts back someone stated to just disconnect it if it fails. NEGATIVE ghost rider.
not gonna happen. Cant just unplug it and all is fine. Doesn't work that way.
You will be fixing it or things will be all sorts of out of wack. Plenty of threads about slightly low battery voltage causing the adaptive steering to fault. Probably due to the calibration sensor voltage too low to calibrate properly bc the batteries are a touch low.
My non adaptive steering SD needs one thing, power steering fluid pressure and it will always work.
Whats next? Adaptive power windows? LMAO! Ford says Mo money Mo money Mo money! Yes!
What did everyone do before adaptive steering? How lazy are we getting?
I had a 2013 Taurus Limited with Electric assisted power steering. Guess what? I got the car stuck on a very lightly muddy road one time. After that i would get random loss of power steering faults while driving about once every 2-3 weeks. Was great when trying to turn left thru traffic and faulted loosing all the power steering assist.
Im going to continue to pass on that crap from now on. My life is not worth being so lazy i cant turn the steering wheel 2 more times to park.
Wait till someone turns the wheel right and it goes left like happened to my friends dads friend. Put the car into a ditch upside down.

Take the steering wheel out and flip it? Adjust it another way?

I think I read the same statement about power steering on some internet forum back in 1965.
Some of these posts are funny. Not intentionally so, but funny nonetheless.
Yes they are. More examples of the "haves" and "have-nots" posts. SOME of the have-nots are compelled to come up with any stupid little excuse why they don't have a option or feature so that they can try to convince themselves that they are not really one of the have-nots. Just like in some of the diesel vs. gas posts.
