will the F-150's new engine be available on the Expedition? I hope this isn't to far off-topic- I was worried that it'd be pushed off the page without replies if I posted on "General Conversation." I hope it is... or will be..... because the Pathfinder Armada can now pull more than the Expedition.
No official word yet. It is also not yet available on the F250. But, I am sure it will be soon. They are probably putting all they can make in the F-150. It also has rear diff and transmission changes due to extra torque (the F-150 5.4 has the F250 10 1/4 rear diff vs. the 8.8 diff on the 4.6/4.2).
P/S What the heck is a Armada (sounds like a girl's name)
I thought the Ford 1/2 ton rearends in the F-150's/Ex's was the 9.75" rear end. The newer F-250's have the 10.5" and the older ones have the 10.25". Still the 9.75" is larger than the Nissan, isn't it?
I'm going to have to agree here. The F150 with the 5.4 has a vistion 9.75 axle in it, while the F250 has a sterling 10.5. And yes...the nissan titan uses a dana 44 rear axle, which uses a 8.5 inch ring diameter.

You know, when you think about it, when you compare component to component, I think the Ford would be on top for strength and durability. The Nissan I think would win for price comparison (cheapness to manufacture) but be more expensive to replace.
I would have to say that from everything I've seen or read the F-150 has the biggest strongest everything in it.
*Correct me if I'm wrong but the F-150 has an 8.8 front diff. While all other half tons have a d44 8.5" of some type except Toyota they use an 8".
*The Ford rear end is an 9.75" while Dodge uses an 8.875",GM and Nissan use an 8.5" and finally Toyota uses an 8" with a girdle to improve structural ridgitity.
* The frame well thats obvious just take a look at all of them down town the Ford sure looks to have the strongest frame.
As for the transfer cases and transmissions I have yet to see a recent Comparo. However my local tranny guy says that the only newer trucks he sees come into his shop is the Dodge. He says that the Torque converters are the culpret. They just dont hold up while towing.
Yeah the Nissan may be more to fix but you won't be fixing it as often. All Japanese manufacturers have higher standards with their engineering. Thats why Honda's, Toyota's, and Nissans will last 200k + with little work ever done to them, sure Chevy, Dodge, and Ford can run that long but they need a lot of maintenance done to keep them going.
I am the new owner of a 2003 F150 (7,000 miles) so I don't know how competent the vehicle will be over the long haul.
So far so good. I enjoy owning and driving my F150.
I can say that my 89 Toyota 4 X 4 has 250k. Maintenance items may have been far and few between but most parts seem to cost 50% or more than a Ford/GM/Chrysler part.
I don't agree that trucks from Japan are better engineered. I do not agree that trucks from Japan require less maintanence.
I agree that trucks from Japan are more expensive, and their replacement parts are much more expensive.
I do think the American (and German owned Dodge) trucks will haul more cargo, are built with heavier duty frames, and tow much more weight. Ford and GM trucks are also easier to work on.
I also believe buying an American truck helps the American economy (which eventually helps us all). It gives your neighbor a good job. It keeps the dollar here which keeps our currency strong.
I agree about pearl harbor and that japanese parts cost more, i'm just saying that they need to be replaced less often as american brand cars/trucks, basically saying you won't need to be spending that high amount to fix it cause it won't break as an american car usually does have those small problems although cheap to fix there is just more of them which adds up. As for Dodge being German owned, it was a merger and is still an American built truck, Ford/Mazda/Jag/Aston Martin/ VOLVO - If you do recall Ford used Mazda Trannies in their trucks in the earlier to mid 90's. And they are still sharing some parts. Even GM is global now, there really isn't a PURE american brand anymore, every company makes vehicles oversea's or in a neighboring country so they can save money.
hmmm. Getting a little off subject here ;-) Was my question ever answered? I don't know much.... I just read that article on edmunds.com and was sad to see that Ford lost its best-in-class towing capability. Now, if the new Triton V8 was put in the Expedition, I'm sure Ford would be the champion again. Soooo.... will Ford do that?? (Do yall ever go to Edmunds.com? If so, why does the Toy (ota) always win?????)
