I'll try and keep this short, recently I pulled a c6 out of a 1980 3/4 ton econoline with a 351w at the junkyard. I got to cleaning the nearly 40 years of gunk and noticed a good size chip that turns into a small hole on the bell housing. Not new damage from being pulled judging from the amount of gunk filling the chip, it's likely been this way for a long time. My main concern is potential cracking around the bell housing caused by this. The plan was to rebuild this core for for my project 1981 Granada 2 door (foxbody) 408w. Should I start with something better, get this welded up, or since it's likely been there for some time just send it?
Note that the damage seems like it goes from the outside-in. How does this even happen? I did notice a few teeth missing on the flex plate but that's it. My other theory was that maybe something was rubbing on it? Then again I'm probably over thinking it and it might have just been some bone-head mechanic from years past. Anyways feel free to chime in with your thoughts.
