Hello all. Im looking for what you may have installed in the cab for grab handles. My mother in law has moved with us and she has a VERY hard time getting into the pickup. No handles to grab. She is 75yo, bad knees that do not bend and overweight. Any good examples. I do not have a cage. She uses a 1 step step stool. We have tried a 2 step so she is level with the floor but needs the handle to pull herself into the truck.
79 F150 4x4 scab with 33s going to 35s.
They'll help.
Don' know about handles. Older trucks have narrower windshield posts.
When it became evident that my MIL was gonna need to ride with us more often, when her older Buick was getting wor out, and as she never drove (car was left to her by FIL), we bought a Mercury GM so she could ride safely. When he was living, my FIL had a '77 F250 4X4 and he built a step for her side that was maybe 6" wide ad halved the distance from ground up for her.
I like how the loop is parallel to the windshield on those. The ones on the 97-up f150 have caused many a headache. Speaking of which, you might go to a wrecking yard and just have a look around. You may find something that is appealing to you. The 70’s and 80’s ford cars used straps above the door opening and the vans used the same strap for the door pull.

What's wrong with the 99/03 f150s? They are not the same as the 97/99 you posted a picture of. I've never had a problem with them and they hold my 250lb FIL just when he literally pulls himself up into my truck lol
Nothing wrong with em. They work great. Thats the handle on my ‘02. One on drivers side as well. Only thing is the angle of the handle. It protrudes into the doorway. It is very common for someone to bean their noggin on them when entering the truck. My comment earlier stated that I like the angle of the custom ones in the other pictures. They’re more parallel to the windshield.

Hmm interesting. I thought all 99/03 had the handles like mine. (I'll ****** a pic tomorrow) maybe you have a crewcab and that's why it's different? Idk. Yeah mine doesn't stick out as far, it's a bit more streamlined. I do agree; that vs the more parallel one... I like the parallel one better. Sorry for the hi jack.
Hijack not a problem. Sometimes a good conversation or debate is good to get ideas on the table. I do plan on going to the jy when I'm not at work and they are open. The two do not seem to overlap much.
Here are the ones John Wayne had in his '78 F-350.
I liked them because they don't seem to block any of the view through the windshield. I wish I could ask him where he got them.

Reason: spelling correction
At least with mounting it up on the roof you can get to that area (behind the headliner) and reinforce that area and do a nut/bolt mount.
As far as the "A" pillar mounting it either use "nutsert" inserts or self tappers.
I bought a set from a 99-05(?) Super Duty off Ebay for around $40. Came with above the door & A-pillar handles. Only have the ones above door installed at this point. Just used heavey sheet metal screws for now since it's pretty heavy gauge steel there. Work great & look like they belong there.......
