Glad to hear that because in my opinion, such a thing would be silly on a diesel engine.
Is it true that the 3.0 diesel is very quiet?
😆 Yes, it is very quiet. Not quite an EcoBoost at idle, but close. Less sewing machine-like. Now, I pulled my muffler off and piped it with a 4” pipe and dual 5” tips (Magnaflow) and it’s louder out the back. Actually has an exhaust note at idle. Stock, the tailpipe is literally noiseless. Now, in regeneration, it burbles loud enough in the cab it sounds meaty.
Now, with winter temps in the Midwest this week, it sounds like a quiet 6.7L at idle... more diesel-like, but really, still quiet. A little clicky when cold. I have a winter front (Fia) on now at temps below 15, and it muffles it a bit.
I've read that they were doing this on the higher end f150s (Lariat and up) starting in 2015, but I don't know if it's been added to all of the Ecoboost line since then.

It's only on trucks with the premium sound package. All other trucks don't have it enabled.
IMO it's a stupid "feature"... Glad my 5.0L has the sound and doesn't need engine noise piped into the cab. That and AS/S would be the very first things I would disable if I had either.
I have heard of electric vehicles making a motor sound so pedestrians could ‘hear’ the electric car approaching. That makes sense. Making a V6 sound like a V8 is strange. My 2019 Lariat has the premium sound system as part of the 502A upgrade so I assume it must have this “feature”. Would someone please explain what I am supposed to be hearing, where it comes from, etc. Can it be heard outside the cab? How do I know if my truck is doing this? I have not heard anything that didn’t sound normal.

With the radio off or in mute and while getting on the gas, the sound you’re hearing in the cabin from the engine is not the true sound of the engine.
It’s augmented via electronics and pushed through the speakers.
This feature can be disabled and it really must be disabled when one goes to the aftermarket to upgrade the factory sound system.
With that being said, many if not most owners don’t have a clue that such a feature exist let alone is active in their vehicle.
In closing, V8 powered F150’s DO NOT have this feature and this feature is the norm for all brands of vehicles but I’m not sure about V8’s on other brands.

This is true. Europe has mandated that electric cars must make some kind of "sound" outside the vehicle when moving at less than (15?) MPH or when in reverse. Some states have mandated this too (I don't know which ones). It's a safety issue for pedestrians and visually-impaired folks.
Ford pushes sound through the speakers to make a quiet engine louder? That is one of the most ridiculous things I have EVER heard in the auto industry, embarrassing. Chevy should make a commercial about this!
Outside noise on an electric vehicle to warn pedestrians, I understand.

Dumb.........
You are funny. It was only piped through speakers to cover up the EcoBoost to make it sound like a V-8, which Mercedes has only been doing for like 20 years. It’s NOT to make it louder. Go home Chevy Boy! 😜
