I ripped the yellow **** off the top of the handle when i was pulling it out its bay last winter. Under warranty, i thought they would just replace the yellow ****. Not so! They had to replace the entire extension bar including the ****. When you pull the handle out, do not pull it out hard so it hits the end of its extension or you will break the little plastic clips that hold the **** to the handle.

Its a absolute must for me. Its a need, not a want.

I wasn't going to order step ……… a friend I ride with frequently told me "get it even if you leave off other options". (I figured I had never had it or missed it on my past 4-5 trucks so why have 1 more thing to break ……. right).

He said, "don't think about today ……. think about 5-8 years down the road if you plan to keep truck that long"

He was right. I ordered the step ...….. glad I did due to height of bed, etc.

I would not want a truck without it now. No problem at all with mine. 66K miles and operates as good as day 1.

P.S.- I just an aftermarket Bodyguard rear bumper on with the corner steps. They are nice but they are not close to that drop down step on the tailgate.

I did not order my truck with the tailgate step. I thought long and hard about it, but I did not want to deal with it possibly breaking in the future, and the added cost and weight.
I had an AMP step on my last truck, and will put one on this one soon.

I *tried* to search the forums for reviews/opinions just out of curiosity to no avail.
Anyone have the step? Like it? Hate it? Broke it?
Just wondering........
Have had the tailgate step on my last two Ford trucks, one an F150 and now the 2018 F250. Use it all the time—highly recommend this on any Ford truck that it is available for.

I waffled on whether or not to get it when I ordered my 2019 F350. I didn't think I'd really use it much. Not that I've had my truck a year, I love the tailgate step. I use it a lot and would have regretted not ordering it.

Yes some sort of step is necessary but the Ford oem tailgate step is a joke have had several trucks with it, can’t use if trailer hooked on, can’t load anything with it down with forklift etc, buy and amp research step 10x better.

For those wondering just how high the tailgate sits, perhaps this will help:

Basically, you’ve gotta step up higher than 3 1/2 rungs of a ladder. It doesn’t necessarily have to be the factory tailgate step, but these trucks need some kind of step.

Ummm, my bumper pull trailers have built in steps. They are called tongues and Ford's step is far from being a joke. It works fine and does what it is supposed to.

Indeed. If my tailgate height was the same as my '00 F-250 I'd be happy without a step. Too bad there's not an option to purchase with bed and step-in heights the same as the old days. I'd trade the flat floor for a transmission hump and lower entry and working heights in a heartbeat. I miss being able to stand beside the truck and reach the bottom of the toolbox.

interesting I’ve never had a trailer tongue with steps built in lol....other than to climb around on slippery painted tongue. I was the same until I bought a kick out amp step for a Ram thought the ford one was fine till that. But the ford one gets sticking pulling in and out the handle a pain can’t have a loading ramp out, load in with forklift, have to reach over it if hand bombing stuff can’t extend it with a trailer, for a goose neck can extend but is of no use in the middle vs side. Better than a ram... no option, and better than the new super inspector gadget GM one though

Actually, Ram has the AMP-style bed step available:

The tailgate step on my 2017 F250 is being replaced under warranty, would not pop out when pushing the button to release the step. Other than that, love it. At 5'9 I use it often.

I was on the fence when ordering my truck but I am glad I did! I rarely use the handle but use the step all the time. I don’t care for the amp steps hanging below the bumper visible even when not in use. With the tailgate up, the middle part of the bumper is low enough, but with the tailgate down, these trucks are hard to jump into.

Made some from 2.5 inch tubing and old tractor steps. Drill and bolt into hitch. Used some silicone to take out the slop in the diff of the tubes. Or weld some beads and grind to fit.
