4x4 price difference

Anybody know why while build and pricing. Adding 4x4 is more or less on certain trim levels. For my example, pricing a lariat, adding 4 wheel drive is $3,190. Adding it on an xlt is $2,800. Couple hundred dollars is quite a difference.

Most likely a difference in tire size?

Or maybe shift on the fly or manual engagement?

The ESOF looks to now be standard on all 4x4s. the 4x4 is 10 bucks cheaper in the XL vs the XLT as well. Could it have to do with the fact that it looks like you cant get a Lariat or higher in a regular cab? the standard tire size is the same size for the lariat vs the xlt 275/65/18

Maybe FX4 versus plain 4x4

There was a similar difference when building my 2019. Build was the same (CCSB). It may be nothing more than Ford trying to hit a certain price point for the trim level based on the competition.

Q: Why does Ford charge more for 4wd on different trims levels?

A: Because they can. 😀

While I truly don’t have a definitive answer I tend to agree with Shawnee1, they are probably trying to fit into a price point.
