Starting Problem

Guys, looking for some help pointing me in the right direction with an issue that started this past november. i'll go out to start the truck, a 2013 SD w/6.2 gas engine and 28,600 miles on the clock, regular oil changes and maint documented at the point of sale dealership. i'm the original owner. it'll just crank and won't turn over. does this trying to start with the fob or with the key in the ignition. it's only when i try and start it for the first time that day after it's sat in the driveway over night. i try it again 15-20 minutes later and it starts right up. it doesn't show any codes, the dealer told me this and i confirmed it in the driveway, threw the reader in right after it failed to start. oddly, after it starts, it's good to go all day. i can run around, do chores and it always starts back up. as i said, it's only that first start of the day that it fails to turn over after it sat all night. it's shown that pattern now for several weeks.

truck has been to the dealer once, they kept it 8 days and replaced some gas delivery module that cost $400. i feel they have no clue what's going on and are just guessing and tossing stuff out there. now they want to replace the fuel pump for $900. i had a full size bronco years ago have been thru a failing fuel pump and this trucks symptoms does not mimic that broncos. kinda why i'm skeptical. if i don't get a handle on it, this truck is going to be a cash cow for the dealer.

any suggestions on where to look for the solution would be appreciated.

when it does not start, try stepping on the throttle to the floor and then turn the key to see if it will start.
when my 2014 does this, the purge valve is bad.

More than likely you do need a new fuel pump. If you are not mechanically capable of measuring the fuel pressure, I would take it to a local shop and ask them to measure the fuel pressure. It will not take them long and spending the one hour worth of labor will give you piece of mind. If they concur that you need a fuel pump they will probably give you a much better price than the dealer.

if iy was the fuel pump, it would be either good, or bad. not don't work now and then work a few minutes later.
