Hey I have an AFE intake for the past 7 years and this time when I went to clean it recently I could see that the media was starting to fail. I am more interested in just putting a 6637 filter on the truck now so I can just keep a spare in the tool box and be down with cleaning these damn things and having to oil them.
It would be sweet if I could keep the intake plumbing of the AFE but that would require a 6637 filter with an ID of 5 1/2" which I dont believe there is a thing. Is anyone familiar with such filter with such a large ID?
I am also contemplating finding a pipe online that would go from the part of our intake where the CCV plumbs into then to the 6637 filter is there already a premade pipe I could order I cant seem to find one? With this pipe I would plumb it into the AFE CAI box make a gasket to seal it off and try to make CAI using my preexisting AFE and a 6637
Last option just sell the AFE intake on craigslist and order a new OEM intake sleeve and Riff Raffs kit.
Why not replace the filter? AFE may give you a better deal since yours fell apart, call and ask.
I prefer S&B filters, I swapped the AFE filter out of their kit for a huge S&B on my 6.4 even...that finally allowed enough air for the turbos to sing and not pull in the filter minder. The 7.3 has an S&B CAI. Also, I recommend that prewrap.
