2018 f350 6.7 started knocking in Saint Louis MO. Drove it apprx 390 miles (expecting to be towed before I made it home) sounds like a rod knocking but i don't believe it would have made it 390 miles without throwing the rod. Its had regular oil changes every 5-6000 miles. He uses Lucas diesel injector cleaner in it from time to time. Had to replace battery the day before and cleans his k&n filter all the time. It has apprx 165k on it & is no where near paid for. I need help!!!!
Maybe post this in the 6.7 forum. Why put a k&n on a new truck especially a turbo engine. You need the best filter possible and that is OEM. Everything else stock on the truck?
x10. In fact, I'd correct that to "No K&N on any engine." High risk, no reward. At best, an K&N functions about as well as a crappy paper filter. At worst, it doesn't filter very well at all and can leach out crap into your engine. And, if he really cleans his K&N all the time as stated, this probably just makes it worse.
Another K&N on a diesel... I wouldn’t install one of those things on YOUR lawn mower,
A clean K&N is as bad as no filter at all. They need dirt to help filter and plug the wide open holes in the gauze..

True and the filter is worthless if it's not oiled correctly. Old out of date theory. Oil bath air filters.
