All in the effort to make money and if owners have to pay for said map update, each update is tied to the VIN# of the vehicle.
To be honest, if you’ve been happy using the factory navigation and if you also have an iPhone or an Android phone, unless the update is free, I wouldn’t bother with the update because it’s still outdated by a couple of years and the navigation options that are available via your phone are up to date and are constantly updated.
