I've got the build sheet for my 1985 F150 and am trying to confirm I have the 19 gal mid-ship gas tank and not the 16 gal so I can order a sending unit. At the B31 (tank) location on the sheet it is an "M". At the B35 ( mid ship sender) location I have an "F". Anybody know the codes ?

Long wheel base (133") is 19 Gallon mid-ship tank.
Short wheel base (117") is 16 Gallon mid-ship tank.
Thanks for the response, I was pretty sure it is the 19 gal but was wanting to confirm from the build codes since I have it in front of me. Is there a list somewhere for the build sheet codes ? Plenty of vin decoders but didn't find one for build sheet options.
Have you ever driven this truck? I guess not? You could tell by how much fuel goes into the tank at the station if you have driven it. You would probably never get over 16 gallons in a 19 gallon tank unless you were really pushing empty. I had a ranger with a 16 gallon tank and I never got much over 13 gallons in it. I was running on fumes once and got not quite 14 gallons in it.
I'm on my first tank of gas since buying it and am carrying a 2.5 gal can of gas around with me to run it out. I realize I could just have a sunken float but wanted to get a new sending unit anyway - this one is 35 years old and probably well-shellaced and/or corroded. I'm prepared to buy a new tank even, if it is too nasty inside when I drop it. This truck has 59k actual on it so it has sat a lot of it's life. Just wanted to confirm my tank size so I could order the correct sending unit ahead of time, don't really care if it actually holds 19 gal or not.
I'd just hit the ground, get under the truck and look at it. From my knowledge, the 19 gal is longer than the 16 gal. You can check Rock auto for pictures of both to compare them. That is the easy way.
I can confirm never getting a fill up with anywhere near the 19 gal for my 85 F250HD. Most I ever got in there was 16 gal and usually average 13-14 gal. My sender is all wonky as well. I chicken out more often than not and fill it up when I see empty
