So can anyone tell me why a few shops i phoned want around $700 for ARP studs but online you can buy for $70-$125?

Sounds like you are looking at head bolts, not ARP studs. Big difference!

These are the standard ARP studs;https://www.summitracing.com/parts/arp-250-4202 , https://www.summitracing.com/parts/arp-250-4206 you need both kits.

These are the ARP super duper ones; https://www.summitracing.com/parts/arp-250-4205 this kit has them all.
You really have to watch out for Chinese knock-offs. Good Luck, Russ
