Transfer Case Not Switching- sometimes

Transfer Case Not Switching- sometimes

Have manual lock hubs but my transfer case does not switch. It also seems to work sometimes.
Checked fuse 28 and Relays and wires to transfer case motor. All seems OK.
4WD lights work on/off on dash.

What seems to fail in this application?

I dunno about switch, OP says lights are working.

OP, do you get a solid 4x4 light or flashing? Or do you mean the lights just come on at KOEO self-test?

I have 4WD lights on dash when I flip switch and locking hubs in lock position. However no traction to the front wheels. I was stuck in my driveway in snow/ice and after an hour or so it seemed to kick in... but it seems random.

My understanding is that when the 4W dash lights come on the transfer case motor has moved and switched.

Yeah that's why I was asking. Typically if that front output fork has been thrown forward it hits the electrical plunger switch for the dash light.

You'll need to diagnose it under the truck. Leave hubs UNLOCKED and in 2hi d/s should spin by hand. Have helper shift to 4hi, you should hear motor and front d/s should lock in.

If it does not, yank motor, figure out where it should be for 4hi and turn manually to that position. If it still does not engage front d/s I'd open up 'case and expect to see a fubar'd front output shift fork.

Also elevate front wheels and make sure your manual lockouts aren't sticky.

With an open diff just one lockout not engaging will mean neither front wheel is powered
