Need some help.. i have a 2003 F-250 FX4 with the 5.4, I can't seem to get my 4low or 4High to engage. I know how to engage and just as a reminder, went to the manual and followed the steps. I recently had my transmission replaced and I am not sure if the Ford dealership missed something or not. Any advise and/or knowledge will be appreciated. Thanks you all
I have manual hubs and yes, i lock them and no matter what effort I give I can get the shifter to gear in, no lights for 4low or 4high light up on the dash.
I believe it is stuck in 2high with hubs unlocked. If the the linkage is jammed up, would this be caused by the new tranny being put in or is there a way to view this from the top of the shifter box from inside the cab?
I had an old GMC dually that did something similar. The 4x4 was never used until I tested it out and The linkage was rusted and un-able to move. I would look under there and make sure nothing is rusted or siezed up first
You'll have to get under it. Ideally with someone up top trying to operate the linkage. It might be in a bind somehow because of the tranny work. The transfer case had to be dropped when they did the tranny, so it might even be a better idea to take it back to that shop, if you think it is a warranty issue.
If none of that works, I think I would get the front wheels off the ground and on jack stands. Then make sure the hubs are unlocking as they should. Lifting the front will also allow any bind between front and rear drives to be released in the transfer case. Although theoretically that can only happen if the hubs are locked. Lifting the front will eliminate that possibility either way. While you've got it lifted, make sure the front driveline turns freely. If it doesn't, it might already be in 4WD.
