hi my truck is a 1990 f150 4x4 ext cab 5.0L well for the last few months now it will usually will not idle at start up unless i apply the gas which i know is a sign of propably a bad tps my question is will the tps sensor effect partial and wide open throttle as well? like when im drivin along it sometimes it will ocasinally surge and shutter a bit and doesnt seem to have as much power but other times appers to run fine it also seems harder on gas then usual i pulled the codes the other day and came up with code 23 tps out of range 14 pip(profile ignition pickup) circuit faliure and 63 throttle postion circuit fault below min voltage i have already bought a tps sensor but havent replace yet also would the code 14 cause any of these symptoms? is the pip part of the distributer itself ? any help would be greatly appreciated i will propaply replace the tps this weekend and see if it solves it but still wonderin about the code 14
LD-Mechanic good luck I just change out my tp and tf and stator and still have the same code 14 coming up. I also use alot of gas 6 miles per gal. I worked at a Ford dealer in Texas for 3 years in 1989 and have never had this problem.

I think I know what you are saying but a TP is a transmission position sensor and I think you meant TPS as in Throttle Position Sensor. Have not heard of a TF but think you meant TFI as in Thick Film Integrated Ignition Module.
When you say stator I think you meant the Hall Effect Vane Stator Switch Assembly.
A Code 14 indicates two successive erratic Profile Ignition Pickup (PIP) pulses occurred, resulting in a possible engine miss or stall.
The Hall Effect Vane Stator Switch Assembly is inside the distributor.
The PIP (Profile Ignition Pickup pulses) is the signal generated by this part.
You have take out the distributor to change out the Hall Effect Vane Stator Switch Assembly and most just replace the distributor.
Sounds like you have wiring problems, please look at my other post in this Thread about the Code #14.
LD-Mechanic thanks for the info I well check out the wiring and I do have a little engine miss at idle. I also read a thread about looking at the engine running at night to see if I can see any spark. It has been a few years sense I work for Ford.
Sorry not getting back with anyone but the problems for the codes on my 1990 F-150 5lt was a return fuel line that was pinched off. I bought the truck head for the junk yard and the old owner put a new gas tank in and the line got pinch off, I found it when the line broke. So no more codes.
