Severe Violent Vibration

My F250 gets severe vibration at highway speed after hitting a bump or rough patch of highway. Very scary! Any idea what is causing? I have 35K miles on it. It’s a 2018 XLT. Thanks

2X4, 4X4, where is the vibration...seat of pants or steering wheel?

Give him the benefit of the doubt...
Wait n see
Mr. Cheese, you'll need to explain a bit more , but as noted above there are endless threads on the forum concerning "vibrations/with bumps".
Hopefully, you don't have D.W.

Hello yes I am new to this forum. I have learned quite a bit from reading past messages. I believe I have DW and will take to Ford for repair. I am so disappointed that this is happening on such an expensive truck.

Whether it's a platinum or xl trim level they all share the same drivetrain. Yeah it sucks to have this kind of issue. Make sure all tire pressures are good to go. I only have 12k miles on my 2017. I guess I am on borrowed time with mine it seems. I will just take mine to a private mechanic to have it addressed or a good 4x4 shop that has experience with this issue. Good luck and definitely report back with your experience.

Definitely a disappointment....
Seems to be random to me.....I wonder if anyone has done any research to see if there are any "common denominators" or: location of manufacture, stock/modified, tire size and type, maintenance completed (air pressure/shock and stabilizer condition....on and on

Good luck with it, start with the basics as prescribed in the T.S.B. I'm sure your dealership will inspect all suspension components. Head scratcher to me as I'm at 15,000 miles and have never had any d.w.issues or sloppy suspension problems. Get everything documented so you'll have a paper trail. Hope it works out for you.

You state you are on borrowed time

I have seen the death wobble thread, just skimmed thru it

Is this issue guaranteed to happen to everyone at one point?

I don't know why some get it and some don't. I'm on my 4th Super Duty and have never had it. Not sure if it's the way I drive or just lucky. Probably just jinxed myself, LOL.

I, too, have not experienced this on my 2017 F350 ("knock on wood"). I bought the truck new in Jan. 2017 and immediately put on a 4" Superlift and 37" tires. I have a couple of buddies who have an F250 and F350, respectively, and they both have experienced death wobble. Strange how it shows in some trucks and not in others.

I just got it the other day at around 13,000 miles. Not towing.

Cruising at ~75 mph and hitting stiff bridge/concrete joints caused me to twice get a 1-3 second wobble before it self-corrected. Then, it finally hit for good. Again, it was a pretty severe bump/pothole/concrete joint (it was dark) that sent me over the edge. Violent wheel shaking. I knew what it was from reading here. My wife was freaking out. It woke two of my kids up. One of my kids was certain it was a massive blow-out. When it happens, it's intense and incredibly violent.

But, I found that the truck was pretty easy to control. I was in a straight line and just loosely held my steering wheel ... sort of like offroading grip style. I flicked on the hazzards, reduced speed, and exited I-70. While decelerating on the off-ramp, somewhere between 20-30 mph, the wobble went away. I came to a stop. Proceeded to get back on I-70 and drove home.

5 passengers, not towing, nothing in the bed, tires aired to 50 psi in the front, 60 psi in the rear. F-350, 6.7L. I have the snow plow/camper prep and the 5,990 lb front springs. Stock components: tires, shocks, stabilizers, ride height, bumpers, grilles, etc. Everything is stock. 18" wheels. I run lower pressures when not towing and in the winter (and programmed with FORScan to allow the lower pressures without TPMS warnings).

My truck was a late March 2019 build.

I haven't called the dealership yet.

I say im on borrowed time as I have low miles and it could happen as I get more miles on my truck. Maybe I will be spared, i dont know and time will tell. I tend to run higher air pressures in my tires and in a few instances people were running low air pressures to improve ride. They aired tires back up and helped the situation with their DW. I would say it is not guaranteed to happen. Its luck of the draw. I have said it more than once in the threads and I'll say it again. I think some of this is related to tires and balancing. Some are better than others. The tires are static balanced with stick on weights or only weights on back of rims. No weights on front of rim as there is no lip for it. Maybe if someone experiences this DW throw some balance beads in or centramatics on and see if situation improves. Along with proper air pressures. Just a thought.
