Does anyone know the part number for the water pump on 7.3 naturally aspirated. The book says it's 8601. Ford parts says it's obsolete. I saw a pw 454 online. Is that the same part? Rumor has the thickness on these things has to be spot on so the injection pump don't get destroyed. Thanks in advance. Any expert tips would be fabulous as well. Y'all are great thank you
It is in fact PW454. However, if you read some reviews, they match my results. Motorcraft is (or was anyway) using poor quality bearings evidently, because some people, like myself, had the pump go out in short order. I got a reman at the closest local parts store I was working by at the time, a few years ago now, and that's been flawless.
At almost 1/4 million miles I'm on my 3rd water pump. The new, not rebuilt, pumps from Napa have lasted longer than the original factory Ford pump did.

Just had a Napa pump fail on me, was on three years and roughly 36,000 miles, the bearings were fine but the seals went and it was pissing water out the weep hole pretty bad.
That was a new pump but after that I quit dealing with Napa. I went and bought a new Murray at the local O'Reilly as I've always had good luck out of them.
Very easy. You can have the job done by the time you strip down the junk on modern engines, just to get to the part to change. Where on the IDI, you just need to change the part that's in clear view.
Of course in this case, the hardest part might be the fan removal. There's plenty of threads on this to help ya out though.
