2007 Super Duty Instrument Cluster Issues
2007 Super Duty Instrument Cluster Issues
Hey guys, my step-dad has a 2007 F-250 Super Duty (6.0L diesel), I also drive it every so often in addition to him. Truck was built 05-2006. Everything on it is bone stock, including the EGR system. The only issue with it right now is the speedometer gauge in the instrument cluster.
For the past few years I've noticed mainly when its cold out (but sometimes even in the summer) the speedometer is either inoperative (no movement), or the needle moves up to 40mph while parked..The only way I've been able to temporarily fix it is to put the cluster in the dealer test mode (cluster diagnostic test). Though yesterday I did the self-test and it still zero(ed) out after a few minutes (had to use the digital speedometer in the message center as a backup).
I'm aware of a TSB Ford published a few years ago regarding erratic gauges to rectify this (TSB 07-11-2, according to this thread), but I don't have the means to test/diagnose it myself.
I've heard that the only real solution here is to replace the cluster entirely (an est. $800-$1,000 job), but I wanted to check here first before we go out and spend that sum of money.
Has anybody else experienced this before? Is there a fix other than the cluster swap?
Thanks!
