Fuel tank replacement

Hi folks. My fuel tank needs replacing but I'm worried a new tank will not have the necessary strap supports due to the deteriorated box. Does the fuel tank tie into the underside of truck bed at all? Thanks.

No. Tank is held in with two straps. One end of each strap bolts into frame cross members, other end has a tab that fits into a bracket on the left side frame rail. Check your mounting straps for corrosion before re-using them. Do yourself a favor and don't start the job until the tank is near empty. I did mine with about 22 gal of sloshing fuel inside....very hard to maneuver. Re-mounting an empty tank is a one-man job and quite easy. There are about 7 hose/electrical connections....some are difficult access, be careful not to break tabs on the electrical connectors. Lower the tank slightly onto stands or blocks to aid access to the most difficult ones. Good luck with your repair!

you can buy new straps off e-bay... You can also make straps from 1/8" x 1" x 3 ft steel bar from the hardware store.
