8lug conversion step 1 new axle

so, picked up this whole rear axle for 200 here in Minnesota. From a 1978 ford f350. Just ordered all new parts to rebuild it to brand new. Small projects until I get my truck out of storage in the summer.

This is a Dana 70. Rear axle ratio could be 3.73 or 4.10 or 4.56.

Found a rusted bearing on the shaft.

Also found some rust inside the axle.
With the rust am I screwed if any info would be great!!

what's the diff look like? The bearing does all the work on the wheel end, rust on the spindle is no big deal. Just make sure the ring and pinion are good.

The seal surfaces look a little ruff might need some love

Wanting info on this number on the axle

Bad new

Pocket book is catching on fire haha. Wife doesn't like my new project

Not Ford related.
Rear axle ID tag located under two of the bolts that retains the inspection cover to the housing. Post what the code is (if the tag is still present).

Found the tag says 4.10 and counted to verify. My wife was about to throw this away cause it was full of rust on my work bench.

Updates

Cleaned up well and now waiting for all the parts complete new internals and gear ratios.

Parts are piling up

Inner wheels put together. I have outer put together at work.

My 65 f350
I changed mine (1965 F350 6092 actual miles) to a Dana 60. Was easier to get 8 lug. Mine came HD Dana 70 w/ 5.85 gears.

6092 miles! That's an average of only about 112 miles a year. We need pics of that one, especially the interior, seat and underhood.

I got everything figured out bearings and race just came in tonight. So, putting it together this weekend.
