This is my first project car, and I would like to do things the “right way” (if there is one) my driver side floor panel looks like below...
what do you guys recommend?/How would you tackle this?
1. grind down the welds, and leave as is?
2. Cut out the floor panel and replace?
3. Sand it down and ask again?
thanks again for all the advice!
Sorry it is upside down I don’t know how to fix that.
IMO you get what you pay for with the floor pans, the $60 are not very sophisticated and the stamping to give it rigidity are just suggestions at best. The $100+ ones are heavier metal and much better formed to match the original and provide the rigidity you want. The difference is small at the end of the project and definitely worth it, look closely at the pans and you'll see
Too bad the upper part of the floor plan is not available. Mine is rotted out 6" up beyond the end of the floor panel they sell. Gonna have to try and fab something up I guess
My floor under the pedals was rusted from having a 1” gap in the windshield weatherstrip. I riveted in heavy gauge hardened stainless steel about 20 years ago.
My floor pans are also pretty bad. I ended up getting a set from CJPony. Probably not the best quality and they're definitely a little difficult to fit, but it's what I could afford right now. They come stamped out to fit all the way from the bottom of the floor up to halfway up the firewall, so at least with these ones you'd have all the coverage you needed.
I bought my pans and body mounts from Carolina Classics. I believe they are the same thickness as the original floor and I am happy with the quality. Here's a video of my buddy installing both. ~Pat
Great vid and nice job, I bought the same left pan and mounts from carolina, hands down the best ones out there. I was surprised you did it with the cab on with the front "flying" like that. I am going to do it on its back and try to keep it level and true like Crop Duster did in that shot from the thread "help welding in floor pans".
