2003 6.0 excursion: I got a 2285 code: injector control pressure sensor low. When it is cooler outside(below 40°, it runs rough and hesitates, and sometimes the RPM's jump to around 1200 at idle. Should I replace the ICP? I was trying to find one on rock auto... Any help would be appreciated.
can I reach back there and unplug it? Do I have to remove anything? If I unplug it, what happens? Will it idle better/run smoother?
you should be able to get in there without removing anything to pull the plug... but also depends on how big your "mitt" is.... 2003 your ICP sensor is behind the IPR and under the up-pipes... you may have to unplug the IPR to get to the icp but theyre both easy to get to...
Unplugging it forces the computer to run the engine off the pre-programmed/default values vs using the ICP reported values... its a good test to see if theres really a problem with the ICP or something else causing the problem...
Is the truck taking forever to start but will eventually start?
Actually no, no problem starting but as soon as it starts the RPM's jump high... Sometimes it runs correct, and other times it runs with a high idle. Like, at a light if your not paying attention it will all of a sudden hump up RPM's, will happen driving it too no matter what RPM. It comes and goes, its not constant.
I get to it from underneath. I use a bungee to hold the e-brake cable aside, and a 1/4 drive ratchet to pull the two screws that hold the heat shield in place. I can reach both screws from the driver's side. They're either 8 or 10mm.

-Go from the top and remove the intake, coolant reservoir, FICM, and the rear FICM bracket.
-Disconnect injectors 4,6, and 8 but don't move the FICM harness yet.
-Use a 10 mm wrench and a 10 mm socket to break the nut loose on the stud so you don't break the wire.
-Move the FICM harness out of the way.
-The ICP and IPR are now easily accessible. Depending on the size of your hand, you should be able to reach below the turbo and disconnect the IPR and ICP sensor. Both harnesses are long enough that they can be brought forward for visual inspection and/or soldered.
-IF the ICP plug is covered in oil, you have your answer. Replace the sensor with the 2005 sensor as it's more robust and does a much better job with the heat.
-IF after replacing this, the same issue occurs, take a close look at the IPR especially if it doesn't have a heat sheild.
-Remove the IPR and check to see if it has the original screen. If it does chances are it's the original IPR and it probably needs to be replaced.
This is just worse case but I have a feeling your problem is the ICP sensor or maybe the harness.
The ICP had oil in it... Installed a new one, and is now running perfect! Thank you for all your help. I did it from under it, wasn't terrible. The heat Shield was and still is in place, the harness looks really good too.
Sorry to bring back an old thread of mine. I replaced the ICP months ago, and this past weekend while towing when stopped I could smell oil burning... thought WTF is going on now, crawled all over it and couldn't find a leak anywhere? I noticed ever so often it "feels funny", this morning while driving i was getting surges again for a little bit and now it seems fine, at least for now. Did the damn ICP go bad again? I bought mine from Advanced Auto parts, this one and it seemed to fix the problem: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...searchTerm=Icp
Now its acting up again! Is this part a POS? Is there a better replacement I can order?
I dont have a CEL light on yet and Torque Pro I dont have a code , or pre code, so I am confused...
Not being ugly BUT how many threads have you referenced about installing aftermarket ICPs? There are several parts that many of us will absolutely not use anything but Motorcraft and this is one of them. I’d rather buy an ICP from a salvage truck than install some no name junk like a box store sells. The connector is probably cracked inside center and leaking oil.
The bulk of people on the forums that deal with these things are mostly all in agreement - OEM on sensors and actuators. So much so that there are periodic complaints about the "blanket OEM opinions" that are posted.
Your ICP may be bad or it may not be. Pull some data to see ........
ICP pressure at KOEO
ICP volts at KOEO
Check the same data at cold an hot idle. Add the IPR % duty cycle at the two idle conditions.
Did you clean or change the connector to the ICP? If not, it is probably oil soaked. The pressure from the ICP pushes oil into the connector and wires. need to either clean/soak the pigtail or replace it.
