Hi everyone I have had a clunk on the drive line on my van for quite sometime now, I replaced the u-joints and that helped a little. After reading some treads here a found a procedure to test it and everything is nice and tight when I shake it at the joints exept for the slip yoke at the tranny which seems to be loose and can be felt and heard moving when I shake it. Is this normal and supose to move like that ? or do I need to replace the yoke and/or continue to search for the problem? What do you think?
Are you talking about at the U-joint or the piece that slips inside the back of the transmission.
You do know that there are 2 u-joints on the drive line. one at the front and one at the back.
If you have changed both of them then the tail piece of the transmission can be wore.
The guy at the trans shop said that some trans had that problem.
It wears right at the end behind the seal.
Sounds like the output shaft bushing on the transmission is worn. This is a common problem. The parts are relatively inexpensive, about $23.00 for both a new bushing and seal. Unless you have access to an internal puller, it would be best to have this done at a shop.
