ive had my 94 aerostar standard length for about 8 months now and have completly fallen in love{hate} with it. and im a teenager.{i have this thing about ******* wagons} and since i got it the rear end and basically the whole driveline seems kinda noisy. my brother is an ex mecanic and was riding with me and said the rear end was going bad. . but ive been looking into and the car safty somthing or other had a list of complaints about the ford aerstars and windstars{like they sould even be put on the same page for any reason} and one major complaint they had was a moisy rear end. im desparatly needing to know if the rear end noise is normal with theser vans or if the rear end is going south for the winter so to speak.
Mine's been sounding like it's going to seize for the last 158K out of it's 158K life. A modulated whirring sound, with the occasional scraping noise, worse on curves at a decent speed. Rear's outlasted the transmission, AC compressor, steering rack, just about the entire front suspension except lower control arm bushings, and will probably make the same noise when the wrecker comes some day to take it to salvage heaven.
