This isn't a new topic but the posts i'v found are all old. I have FMX and it takes a long time to go backwards, sometimes. On startup sometimes i have to move it from drive to reverse or even go forward a little be fore it will back upl After it once goes back then for the day it is fine.
I had a friend replace a master cylinder for me a few weeks ago and now the transmission doesn't shift until 3000 RPM;s. I'm thinking a vacumn hose got removed but i can't seem to find it. Any ideas anyone??
Problem 1: I had a Ranger that did this exact same thing. I finally tracked it down to a leaky valve body gasket. The gasket is cheap enough that it’s worth giving it a try.
Problem 2: Yes, that transmission has a vacuum modulator that must be connected for it to shift correctly. It is located just above the right rear corner of the transmission pan. Follow the vacuum line back up to the engine and make sure that it is connected to manifold vacuum.
I had a 76 Ford wagon that I bought with a bad transmission. The previous owner said that the trans would take a long time to go into fwd or reverse the first time of the day, then would be ok for the rest of the day. It got worse and worse until it wouldn't go at all. I bought it from him and swapped transmissions and resold car. Later on I took a transmission class at a community college. I took that transmission in and we took it apart. The only thing wrong with it was a $2.00 o ring seal! The seal around the direct clutch had cracked. So It wouldn't apply the clutch. In that case the trans would have had to come out to be fixed. I realize you have a FMX and that was a C6 but maybe they're similar?? I hope you don't have to remove it.
