Comp Cam 284 roller

Hi i have a off road truck with a 408 10.6:1 compression and AFD 4V alloy heads. I am wandering about the Comp 284 hyd roller cam 224@50 566 lift how it would work with this setup its listed 2000-5500 rpm probably for the 351c so how would the power band be in the 400 ?

I ran the numbers and that cam would peak at 4,826RPM for a 400 if it's listed at 5,500 for a 351C. That's based purely on the difference in displacement. It's possible the 1/2" longer stroke of the 400 could make it peak even earlier, but I'm not sure how you would calculate that. Sounds like a fun off-road truck to me!

You should have plenty of cylinder head. I'd get the flow numbers and call a cam company for a recommendation.

Okay... So I have Engine Analyzer Plus, a very nice computerized dyno simulator by the way, and I ran the AFD 4V heads on a 400 with 10.6:1 compression and a "guesstimation" of that camshaft. It looks like you can get to 6,000 RPM and would be making just over 500 HP if everything were optimized. If you had the cam card information on the camshaft I could be more accurate.

284HR Specs

IMO this single pattern HR is a conservative profile, but should clean knobby tires with a measure of reliability.
