i noticed the same thing about people when i worked at a large waterpark as a lifeguard...the statistics i noted where that the blacks and hispanics had to be saved by me about 7 of 10 times, with the other 3 being white...that is just from MY experience and should not be taken as a generalization of any said race

I work every day with Mexicans. I think they are great people and it has been an enlightening experience. We can talk about our differences and it is a culteral exchange, not racism. We joke about some things that are contrast between our lives and no one gets offended. I dare say I have never felt comfortable to be this relaxed around blacks with conversation. They seem to get upity and offended more easy. OOPS I started wandering off the subject again. By the way I know that a few of my "Hispanic" brothers can swim, that's how they got here. And all the ones I know call themselves Mexican, not Hispanic.

In response to a question in all of this farther up:

It was a great honor and a privelege to have served on the USS NIMITZ at one point in my career with a black gentleman who was a former NAVY SEAL. I cannot and will not give his name, but he was from Texas.

I cannot give out his name because first of all it isn't my story to tell, and second of all for the same reason he couldn't tell me about all of the thirty caliber scars he had here and there on him.

I can certify two things for sure though - That man could swim! He could also shoot better than most people I will ever know...

I, was a student assistant , incharge of the 10 th floor of the men's hi-rise dorm, while in school which paid for my living exp's cause I was "below the poverty line", then. Anyway , the rooms were separated by a common bathroom so if you left both bathroom doors open you could see all the way thru to the other side of the bldg. At the far end of the hall the basketball coach had placed 4 (big) Afro players. Nice guys, but on friday and\or sat. night they would start drinkin and smokin dope while shooting dice against the door. So , I informed the coach and the Dean of student affairs (who was my boss). Nothing happened, same thing week in week out. I was never told anything which i interpreted to mean to just leave it alone. Finally , one friday night, a freshman from my floor showed up with a Snake about 3 feet long and very skinny. Ah! Problem solved!! I took that snake down the hall and and stuck its head under the Door that was the entry door for the room across the bathroom from the "Guys" were playing dice. The snake slithered under the door in short order. So, i raced back down the hall to the Communal area by the elevator where the Tv was for the 10th floor students. It took about 5 minutes for the "Brothers" to figure out that they had a visitor as they used A black light to see. Well , all hell broke Loose. All the guys watching TV were laughing so hard (including Me) that we couldn't control ourselves. One of the players came running down the hall with a 38 special which he didn't even realize that he was holding . He , was going to find that " MF" snake and shoot it. Now, the floors in this building were 8 inches thick , reinforced concrete. go figure, anyway they got the point and the dop smokin came to a halt........s.kuteman

...One of the players came running down the hall with a 38 special...
...and he wasn't arrested for having weapons on a school campus? I assume he didn't fire it.

I guess the swimming thing is more environmental than racial. You have to have warm enough weather, water deep/safe enough to swim in, and someone to teach you. I was fortunate enough to live in warm climates that were near water and had parents that taught me to swim, so I'm a good swimmer. Some of my cousins lived in cold climates (but had water and someone to teach them) but didn't swim very well.
