Gas/Throttle Pedal setup

I am looking for some ideas about which throttle pedal to use. All I have is the stock pedal that attaches to the transmission cover, but no linkage and the pedal is in very rough shape.
I have a 351W installed, and would like a hanging pedal (as compared to a floor mounted pedal) I did some searching about what is the best setup with having the 351w, but didn't find much information or pictures of how to set it up.

Anyone have any pictures on how they mounted a hanging pedal and how you routed the throttle cable? I am looking the universal pedal from speedway.

Or do most go with the floor mounted pedal regardless of what engine is being used.

The hanging pedal simply mounts on the firewall. Put it where it's comfortable for your foot. The cable will route where it goes, it will let you know.

I got a pedal assembly out of a 80's Dodge pickup in the bone yard, someone on here recommended it and it was great and cheap. I'll try to find a pic.

I used a jeep pedal and modified it fit a home made hanger.

I looked at that pedal but opted for the more expensive one from Speedway. The problem I have is that the guy who installed mine put it way high on the firewall requiring me to hold my leg up because my heel is about 5" over the floor. I built a platform and it works OK but the geometry of the pedal arrangement causes some discomfort to the instep of my foot since I have to pull it up to keep it from pressing too hard on the pedal. But the original placement is no better with the lack of leg room in these old trucks. This is tough to describe, but if you sit in your daily driver, you will find that your foot rests on the heel and is pretty normal position of the foot angle to your leg, about 90º. With any pedal in our old trucks, the gas pedal will get your foot to an angel of about 60 to 70º. So the higher your foot goes up on the firewall, the more natural the foot to ankle angle.

Hope this helps.

Later!

I agree, my right foot/ankle does get really tired after a long drive. I am tall and the angle is wrong actually for all 3 pedals. A friend drove the truck and just about put us thru the windshield when he hit the brakes, even after I told him about the touchy power brakes. I think it has to do with the floor being designed to be used with pedals thru the floor. Same with a hanging gas pedal vs. a hinged pedal from the floor. Of course the brake and clutch are ok as long as you are used to it but you are on the gas all the time and that does get tiring. Though I just realized after thinking about it that I am so used to using the cruise on my daily driver that when I drive my 71 Cutlass which doesn't have cruise my right foot gets tired also! That car is as is from the factory. Maybe I am just soft. Funny how yesterdays luxuries become today's necessities!

Watch the sizing of the pedals. I bought a set of ebay. Looked great, price was cheap. But when I got them, they are tiny. I have not installed them yet but think they are going to be funny looking.

Astro van hanging pedal

Lokar cable
I used a pedal from a 90s astrovan from upullit. Used a Lokar cable mounted to firewall. I positioned it so the ball of my foot is on the pivot point of the pedal. Cheap and works well.

I used a Lokar pedal. A bit pricey but Speedway has them on sale right now.

How about the throttle cable bracket for the sniper EFI? Lokar has a bracket but is seems expensive for a SS bracket.

I was not sure if a regular carberator cable brake would work.
