I'm about to order a after market AC for my truck. The compresser kit says it fits the cleveland engine and 400 but says nothing about the 351M. I have always assumed the accessary bolt pattern were the same for all 3 engines can anyone confirm this for me?
Thanks: Jeff
It depends on how the accessory bracket(s) is designed.
The block and heads on a 351M and 400 are identical. Anything that fits on the outside of a 400 will fit on a 351M.
Bolt patterns that include both the block and heads (for example, a bracket that attaches to the water pump on one end and a cylinder head on the other end) will be different for 351C and 351M/400 engines, because of the 351C's shorter deck height.
Since the water pump is the same on all 351C/351M/400 engines, if a bracket had the right elongated hole(s), it could fit both engine types. Otherwise, the kit would have to include different brackets for the 351C and the 351M/400.
