U-joint replacement time?

U-joint replacement time?
My '96 has 132K miles on the original Ujoints. No sign (noise) of wear. What is the recommended replacement mileage? I kinda think I probably shouldn't plan any long trips before then. Thanks, all.

Mine have never been replaced at 175K. If they are not giving you any signs of trouble I would not worry about it. I have never seen any advice to replace the u-joints at any particular mileage, only in case of failure. Oh, and I have been on 2 different 2,000 mile trips since August.

I wouldn't worry about them unless there is a problem. To check for problems in your u-joints...place your vehicle in neutral and put your parking brake on. Reach underneath your vehicle and grab your driveshaft and wiggle it back and forth. it will probably move a little bit but make sure there isn't any play in the joints themself. Just watch them. Also I find that when there is a u-joint problem when I am going fast then take my foot off the gas quickly you will feel vibrations. Also, one more thing is when you take off from a stop you will sometimes hear and feel a clunk.
One major thing that you can do to prevent wear is to grease them every time you do your oil change (3 months). Good luck!
