Wiring on my "53

In my quest to make my new truck reliable in start ,stop, go, and run modes I have got the electrical system charging and coil hooked up properly so that feature is good. Prior owner made a good effort to rewire but what a mess! I am going to start the re-wire with a proper fuse block and go from there. The first task re-wire wise will be the instrument panel. all will be converted to 12 volt. pretty simple till I see that the temperature wiring has 2 sender units (one on each head) (hooked in series I think...one with 2 terminals and one with single) The new Gage assy. only has one sensor. Does anyone know if there was a reason 2 sensors were used? Is there a sensor setup available for use with a 12 volt system? While i am in question mode, I am going to put the fuse panel on the firewall drivers side as this seems to be a good central area with ease of access. I think the correct police will not like this, but complete period correctness is not the goal here. Thank you for your inputs!
Andy
P.S. I will start to get the picture thing going as I move forward with this.....not as computer savvy as some of you folks!

About the two sensors; The one with two terminals has variable resistance to operate the temp. gauge, the single terminal one is a snap switch which will indicate a rapid overheating and will hot-peg your gauge. These work fine with the stock gauge using a voltage reducer for the instruments. Are you intending to install an aftermarket gauge set with the 12 volt upgrade?

Yes I will be installing a 12 volt gauge. If I understand correctly I should be able to use the sensor that is supplied with the 12 volt gauge (single post) and hook to the snap switch side of the other sensor. this would assume the snap switch is a normally open and closing causes the gauge to go to full hot. Does this sound right?

Ford used the King-Seely system for their gauges and sending units, so if your new 12 volt gauge and sending unit aren't compatible then I wouldn't do it, you might toast your new gauge.
