hey guys i was thinkin of swaping out my ZF for a C6.
My zf needs a some work and i figured that it would be cheaper to just put in a C6. What i need to know is will it bolt right in or is there some major modifications that need to be done, and will my BW 1356 Tcase bolt up to a C6
A C6 will bolt to the engine just fine, but you will need a C6 out of a 4x4 to work with your BW1356. Is that t-case a manual? Also, you will need a flexplate for a C6 (28.2oz balancer) and a torque converter. You'll need the t-case adapter (ford part) too. The t-case shifter handle may need to be changed for longer/shorter one. 4x4 C6's have a longer output shaft for use with a t-case. You will also need the kickdown cable assembly for it, a aftermarket auto shifter unless you want to change steering columns, and possibly a crossmember for the trans. The ZF crossemember may work, I'don't know on that. Sounds pretty simple, still all bolt -on, although you will have a extra pedal under the dash. Might be a little confusing to any one else who may drive it. I'm assumming that you will put the ZF back in once rebuilt. Its alot of work just to make time to rebuilt a tranny. I would just get the tranny out, get rides to work and home, and get it rebuilt in a week. You'll spent that much time changing to a C6, then time to rebuild the ZF, then to change it back again.
Why not just get your tranny rebuilt? Or buy a rebuild? (I recently checked on this and a rebuilt 5spd for a 250 PSD was going to run us about $1700...)
