I have a 2019 F350 and I am at the dealership having the oil changed. They recommended a fuel filter change (which I already did myself) an air filter change (which I will buy of amazon and do myself) but they also recommended an alignment for $169. I have 10,000 miles on the truck. Is the alignment really necessary at this time? The truck drive straight but who knows if something is off by a degree or two and not noticeable.
Unless you added a lift or something, alignment at 10K miles sounds pretty ridiculous (and $169 sounds pretty high to me.) I have a friend who is a service manager at a dodge / jeep dealer, and he has told me they get bonuses by "upselling" - ie, recommending service that may not really be needed. I'm sure it's the same at Ford.
And with the truck having less than 12000 miles on it, is it less than 12 months old? An alignment should be covered in 12/12 warranty. Even the fuel and air filter needing changed already are suspect. Do you trust this dealer? Do you drive in extremely dusty conditions? I would ask why they think it needs an alignment and if under warranty, tell them to cover it. From page 14 of warranty....https://www.ford.com/cmslibs/content...US_04_2018.pdf ................Wheel alignments and tire balancing will be provided during the first 12 months or 12,000 miles in service, whichever occurs first.

Nope, not lifted or anything. I have a Platinum with the chrome wheels and I just had the Lariat Sport wheels and tires put on yesterday. They were take-offs with 200 miles on them. Anyway, fuel filter change is about $190 (easy to do myself and bought the ford motor craft fuel filters from amazon for $55). They want almost $100 for new air filter (again $50 for ford motorcraft air filter on amazon).
so yeah, the up-sell and the mark ups on top of that are ridiculous.
Your owners manual has the correct and required maintenance schedule. Your dealership does not have your best interests in mind when they suggest additional items beyond that.

lol. Thanks for that. I showed the service manager and they back-peddled and said “well, we would first check it and see if it needs to be aligned before actually aligning it”. My 12 months is up in a couple of weeks.
They could be recommending it since you put new tires and wheels on it. Every dealership I have been to in my life has always recommended that when changing tires. So the answer could be that simple
The service department's job is to sell you more than you need. Your job is to accept just those repairs that you actually need. As stated above, the owner's manual is your BS detector on this.
I changed my air filter myself at around 10K. It looked bad to me (due to forest fires) but the forum said it wasn't bad. Fuel filters were changed at 15K on my truck due to being on the severe duty schedule from all the towing it is asked to perform.
