Hey fellas, new to the group and totally Tech illiterate so please bear with me and thank you for your patience in advance
I recently purchased an 09 F250 Super Duty V10 out of Canada through a dealership in North Seattle I got a great deal on the truck and I really love it my intentions upon purchasing it to tow a small rubber track excavator that I have as my 09 Platinum 150 would just get worn out doing that with that said two issues have emerged check engine light within the first 300 miles and a code p0442 small evap leak so upon seeing that I YouTube some videos the truck being out of Canada's Rusty the fuel cap was Rusty everything's Rusty not bad Rusty just rusty so with that I cleaned the cap clean the filler neck cleared the code the code came back I ordered a new cap for my Ford dealer they wanted to sell me an Evap solenoid valve said that's common amongst those trucks I checked around on the web there like 50 60 bucks they wanted a hundred and ten dad said the other thing I've noticed I can't put fuel in that truck in 3 to 5 minutes at all it's 20 minutes at the pump it just keeps clicking off and off no matter where I have the nozzle in the tank the service guy at the dealership said well that's a problem with those selenoid stew so any help on sorting this out because I don't have the money right now to go to the dealer with it nor would I I like to do my own work but this is a new Beast for me thanks in advance Johnny.
Climb under the truck and look at the vent line off the side of the filler neck, make sure it's not crushed anywhere.. if it looks good then remove it and blow it out, may have become clogged or had a spider build a nest in it.. We use to just take an air hose and blow the vent line clean but I don't know if these newer trucks can take take the pressure. It could also very well be the solenoid. If you own an OBDII reader that can capture live data, that would go along way in diagnosing the problem.

I recently purchased an 09 F250 Super Duty V10 out of Canada through a dealership in North Seattle. I got a great deal on the truck and I really love it. My intentions upon purchasing it was to tow a small rubber track excavator that I have as my 09 Platinum 150 would just get worn out doing that. With that said two issues have emerged, check engine lightwithin the first 300 miles and a code p0442 small evap leak. Upon seeing that I YouTube some videos. The truck being out of Canada the fuel cap was Rusty, everything's Rusty not bad Rusty just rusty. So with that I cleaned the cap, clean the filler neck, cleared the code and the code came back. I ordered a new cap from my Ford dealer and they wanted to sell me an Evap solenoid valve and said that's common among those trucks. I checked around on the web and the're like 50 or 60 bucks. They wanted a hundred and ten. That said, the other thing I've noticed is that I can't put fuel in that truck in 3 to 5 minutes. It's 20 minutes at the pump. It just keeps clicking off and off no matter where I have the nozzle in the tank. The service guy at the dealership said well that's a problem with those solenoids. Any help on sorting this out because I don't have the money right now to go to the dealer with it nor would I I like to do my own work but this is a new beast for me. Thanks in advance. Johnny.
Better?
The Super Duty hard to fill is a known issue. There are several posts about it and fixes for it on this forum. My 2007 F250 has this problem and while I intend to address it at some point I did find a bypass link online that works when filling.
I had a similar problem with '06 5.4. I dropped spare tire, removed evap plastic tank and associated hoses. I rigged a 1/4" hydraulic tubing to blow nozzle off of compressed air. I blew the living, u no wat, out of all evap components. Then I connected a 2' length of hose to evap inlet and ran it to a high and dry location under bed. It all worked for me. This is probably 2 hours start to finish, tops.
It's also a good time to grease spare hanger cable and inspect tire.
Good luck, Noel.
