redoing vacuum lines
The vacuum system seems to be daunting bunch of spaghetti for a lot of folks. My advice is to remove and replace one section at a time in a methodical manner. If it helps map it out before you start messing with it. Don't try to cut stuff out to make things simpler. Everything is there and routed the way it is from the factory for a reason. There is a line going into the cab and one line coming out of the cab in wire bundle by the HVAC blower. These are the hardest to deal with. I put in transitions instead of trying to force new lines through the bundle into the cab.
Don't forget about the PCV, EVAP, and Brake Booster lines.
You can test for vacuum leaks with a hand vacuum pump, so you can find any faulty hard parts while you are in there. The EGR control solenoid leaks vacuum in the off position by design.
I have had great luck with Gates EEC vacuum hose. It says "NOT FOR FUEL INJECTION" all over it, but that is because it isn't meant to be used as fuel line in a high pressure system. It is a great under hood hose in low pressure services.
