Hello had issues with my Ranger its a v6 4.0 SOHC I have sludge due to a non working PVC valve .Moisture built up in the engine and now I am searching for an internal engine cleaner.....I've heard seafoam or marvel but Id like other opinions
Rislone is supposedly the cat's meow, but I've never tried it.
Do you have any symptoms from sludge buildup? In other words, do you have a lifter ticking or an oil pickup tube that's plugged?
If no symptoms, run it without a de-sludger, just a good motor oil. The sludge won't really hurt your performance or gas mileage, it's just an annoyance.
Make sure the PCV valve stays open or replace it on a maintenance schedule.
If you've got a constant foamy residue on the dipstick, your PCV valve needs replacing or maintenance.
Make sure that your PCV valve has the heater tube on it (ie, warm engine coolant flows to/from a metal tube that surrounds the PCV valve). If it doesn't, then somebody removed this needed configuration, as this setup was factory from Ford so as to add some heat to the PCV valve so that it wouldn't stick/freeze under certain operating/weather (humidity/temp) conditions.
Hi
My PCV was trash ....I installed another one hope it does the trick ..did a tune up a few months ago and everything went to hell ..misfire in # 3 and rough idle under 100 rpms..cleaned my MAF and did a smoke test my EGR is stuck smoke poured out of it ..Right now its -4 degrees soooo no auto work today
Hey thanks ...for the info i still have to do a few things on it ..there isnt really any leakage or drop in my fluids ..im thinking its just mosture from a crappy EGR valve and PCV
I shoved one on that had a antifreeze tube ..The old one was shot to hell My EGR is crappy also ..I did a smoke test and it poured outta my EGR soooo right now its -4 so no auto work today thanks for your help
