Hey Guys! My 53 F100 has a GM steering column That was to short. So Im replacing with another GM column. My question is, Is the column centered in the dash cluster?
If you look at the pic, The right line on the blue tape is centerline of the cluster opening in the dash. The short line in the middle is center of the arch that was cut out of the dash to put the other column in. The line on the left is the centerline of the elongated holes under the dash where the column mounts to. Is the factory column offset or were the brackets just off set.? Yes I know the speedo gauge isn't centered either ,That's a later project.
Hi Glenn, I have been building for awhile and when ever I do something it is never right to me and I'm sure it looks bad. When a look at at later I don't see anything wrong.
So put it where ever makes you the most happy.because you are the only person that will really notice it, if you even remember. .
When you sit in the seat, are you sitting centered with the gauge cluster? If you center the steering wheel with the gauges, but you're sitting offset one way or the other several inches, will it feel strange having your steering wheel shifted to the side in front of you? Most people, given the opportunity when installing a custom steering column, will center it with their seating position so it's comfortable to drive. Just a thought.
