I have a 2001 F250. I need to remove the overhead console bracket to do some work on gauges. I can find plenty of info on removing the console itself and repairing the computer (which I've done) but nothing on the plastic bracket attached to the roof. I've tried tugging on it and prying the tabs with a screwdriver. I'm afraid I'm going to break the plastic and have to buy a new bracket. Here's a pic of the piece:
I can look when I get home but IIRC, pull straight down with determination. I can look tonight and see if there’s threaded inserts or just clips, mines been out since I bought it. If you can’t wait check YouTube...
Here’s a picture, looking at the cab, you can see the arrows pointing to the slots. There’s nothing to indicate that there was anything except clips holding it in place.
To confirm, the bracket has clips in the front and a "hook" in the back that goes into the sheet metal:
To remove, pull down hard on the front only to avoid breaking the hook in the back. I mounted a piece of drilled sheet metal under the bracket to hold up my gauges:
The mistake I made was to drill through the headliner, which got caught on the drill bit and mutilated. It looks OK with the console mounted, but to avoid that I should have drilled through the gauge pod and then punched through the headliner with an awl or screwdriver. Now the gauges aren't flopping around on bumpy roads.
