2002 Ford f250 super duty 4wd with automatic front ABS hubs. I need to replace both hub/bearing assys. and want to switch to manual. Can I just buy manual hubs and can I REUSE the auto hub locks ?
Without the vacuum pulse the auto-locking hubs work the same as manual locking hubs. No need to replace them unless there is something wrong with them. I capped of my ESOF lines years ago (put a 1/8" NPT cap in the hub to seal it from dust/debris) and the hubs worked just fine as "manual" ones.
Most that switch to a true manual hub go aftermarket for a better unit (Warn, Mile Marker, etc.). I off-road a lot and will say that I had little issues with my auto-locking hubs (they got a little gummed up sometimes but I just cleaned them out using https://www.guzzle7pt3.com/allube.php). When I took them off for the last time at 220K miles (upgraded the front with 35 spline Dana Super 60 stub axles and the OEM units would no longer fit) they were still working like a champ.
I am going to change both front hubs from auto to manual. One is making bearing noise. 230,000 miles.
The auto hub locks have been replaced and are good. Can I use them in the new manual hubs?
What manual hubs are you getting? The unitized wheel bearing (hub) doesn't have anything to do with ESOF IIRC. It's all about the seals/o-rings on the knuckle to hold vacuum to actuate the auto-locking hub. There's an o-ring on the wheel bearing (hub) for that seal to happen but I don't remember having to select between a manual or auto hub (wheel bearing) when I bought one.
If you are using the same stub axle the auto-locking hub will fit for the inner section but it will depend on the housing on your 'manual' hub to how the outer section of the OEM locking hub will fit into it.
